THIS WEEK IN DOCTOR WHO - March 24, 2000

I would like to thank Jefferson Eng for watching over the column last week while I was exploring England and Scotland.

It seems that a number of stations decided to do bizarre things while I was gone.

UKTV in Australia originally scheduled The Myth Makers and The Massacre to air in April. As the 8 episodes comprising those 2 stories are officially lost, with hardly even a clip in the BBC's archives, it would be quite a feat if UKTV actually aired those stories. But UKTV was relying on inaccurate information. Those two stories have now been removed from UKTV's schedule and replaced by stories that are actually known to exist. On the bright side, they will be airing The Time Meddler in April, a 1st Doctor story which they forgot to show in either their first run through the series or their year-long Who Files.

WQED 13 in Pittsburgh, PA surprised TV listings with Doctor Who specials March 4 at 11PM and March 11 at 11:30PM. Hopefully the specials did well for the station.

Jefferson mentioned WYBE Philadelphia's power outage and WYIN Gary, Indiana's surprise basketball game (both on March 11) in the last column.

1) WYBE aired the pre-empted episodes on March 18, and shifted back the rest of the schedule so that all the episodes air.

2) WYIN seems to be insane. The scheduled episode for March 11 (Deadly Assassin 4) aired on March 18. But Deadly Assassin 3 has not aired yet. The episode planned for March 18 (Face Of Evil 1) has been rescheduled for April 1. So what will air this weekend on March 25? Not only do they have Deadly Assassin 3, but apparently they skipped an episode or two of The Masque of Mandragora in February. Or maybe they'll just air episode 1 of The Face of Evil anyway.

Some timezones are changing for seasonal reasons this weekend. On Sunday morning, most European Countries are going from Standard Time to Daylight Savings Time, and Australia is going from Daylight Savings Time to Standard Time. Remember to bear the time changes into account when trying to see the show, particularly if the time zones aren't changing where you live, but are changing where the station is. Most of the US and Canada will go to Daylight Savings Time next week..
